What does the Beta mean?
You may be familiar with the term "Beta" in reference to software. For example Googles Gmail was in "Beta" for years.
What this designation means is that the software isn't considered "production ready" and that you should expect features to not work properly or have lots of bugs. Generally Alpha quality is for internal testing and Beta is for public testing. We're actually combining the two, this being an Alpha/Beta release, because that's how we roll.
In short, all this means that there's a good likelihood this whole thing is going to go up in a ball of fire. We'd like you to help us make it better, find what's wrong, what's missing, what doesn't work right or doesn't work the way you think it should. After all we're building this for you, so speak up.
How can I provide feedback?
On every page1, in the bottom right hand corner is a little floating box
, click it and let us know what you found, an idea you just thought of or a whatever's on your mind. Be sure to provide contact information if you're not logged in and you'd like us to get back to you.
What is the purpose of Weavemet?
Weavemet will allow individuals to distribute and/or exchange contact information via text messaging. By texting a small piece of a person's contact information (a username, cell phone number or email address) a Weavemet user will then be able to gain access to the entirety of that person's publicly designated contact information via their Weavemet account. In addition, Weavemet users will be able to export all of their contacts to their favorite contact manager and/or friend them on their preferred social network.
- Objectives:
- Expedite the process of exchanging personal and/or contact information.
- Eliminate the need to carry and/or physically distribute contact information.
- Eliminate the need to manually enter contact information in multiple places.
What is a vCard?
A vCard is a format standard for sharing an electronic version of a business card. They are a common format most address books export to for sharing via e-mail. They contain common address book fields such as names, locations, addresses, phone numbers, urls and emails. For more info see the Wikipedia entry on vCards.
What is a hCard?
An hCard is short for an HTML vCard, a way for publishing the contact details contained within a vCard to the web and via XML formats. For more information see the Wikipedia entry on hCards.
What commands can I send via SMS (texting)?
You can find a list of the available commands, what they do and what arguments they take on the How It Works page.
How much does this service cost?
Currently Weavemet is completely free2, we'll always have a free core feature set, but in the future hope to provide features and services you feel are worthy of paying a nominal fee for. If you have thoughts on this be sure to voice your thoughts.
1 This doesn't appear to be present in some versions and builds of MS Internet Explorer. We appolgize as we realize many still use this browser. Might we suggest Firefox until we get this sorted out? (Other browsers you might like: Flock, Safari, Opera)
2 Except for any charges you may incur from your mobile carrier for sending and receiving SMS text messages and or your Internet provider for interacting with our website.
